Loved 'A Little Princes' but did not enjoyed 'The Secret Garden' at all because of the Yorkshire talk. She slept a long time, and when she awakened Mrs. Medlock had bought a lunchbasket at one of the stations and they had some chicken and cold beef and bread and butter and some hot tea. because she was rich she got everything she wanted she had a person that does everything for her.the person that owned the school did not like her because she got everything she wanted. Lennox approaches the servents and tells Mary that the voices are just in her imagination.

Another issue I had with this book was the numerous typos and Caps in the middle of a sentence for no reason that I suspect this is an advance review copy that was somehow sold during a book sale. One of the novel's two protagonists, Mary Lennox is a ten-year-old girl who, after the death of her parents in India, is sent to live with her uncle in Yorkshire, England. By witnessing the way people like Dickon or Ben Weatherstaff interact with animals, Mary comes to learn how animals are living beings with a spirit not so different from her own. so she had to go to this school that you live in. Marry's parents are never home, because of this Mary Lennox is left in the care of Indian caretakers instructed to let Mary have whatever she wants. As days pass Mary starts to hear the voice of a young boy. Karen Savage reads it beautifully. Mary, who has been accustomed to the proper British English that she was raised with in India is enchanted by this dialect and often tries to mimic the way her crush Dickon Sowerby speaks. It is about a girl who looses her father (Captin Crewe) and has to go from being treated like a princess, to being treated like a scullery maid.
The reader gets to watch mary developed in a great new way and the challenges that come with it. i love her reading, her accent, her yorkshire's, and her singing. The book has more detail and you will enjoy it. Soon a huge outbreak of cholera strikes India. Colin is thankful for this song as it helps him relax and realize the absurdity of his tantrum. Only Mary's caretakes know of her outside of her parents. Soldiers of Brittan rescue Mary Lennox and send her to live with her widowing uncle. Two of my favorite books. It's one thing to hear Yorkshire accent in movies but it's altogether a different thing trying to read English written in Yorkshire accent! english is not my first language and i wasn't as good as i am now. Though the garden was left to wither by Mr. Craven, not all is lost; the rose plants, the favorite flower of Mrs. Craven, are still holding on to life. Due to Mary grown accustom to getting whatever she desires, she becomes incredibly self-centered and selfish, only having regard for herself. Through the guidance of Dickon, Mary learns about the diversity of plants and how to care for them. In a few instances, the characters in The Secret Garden share special songs with each other. There are so many movie versions of the book as well, but you definitely can't go wrong with this one: I remember watching these movies as a child, and though I remember A Little Princess as being more dramatic in the film than what the book actually portrays, these two stories are adorable and I can only hope to have a son as soft and caring as Dickon and a daughter as smart and kind and poised as Sara, This story is experienced through the Main Character, Mary Lennox.
