If there are repeaters in your area, you’ll get way more range.

Hi-Lift Jack HL-425 Hi-Lift jacks seem to be issued as standard equipment in the off-road world—and for good reason. An MXT would have been ideal for this trip. ( Log Out /  Not trying to bash on Midland, I really like a lot of their products and the MXT115 is a great concept, but like I stated above, I received the 3rd radio (4th counting my buddies, which he is returning, or has returned).

Last week Chirp wasn't working with the GMRS V1 (with the latest version) it did work with the January file. Did not notice any difference.

The MicroMobile Truly is Micro and Hardly Noticeable in the Cab of your Truck. hope that helps, I the same radio (2 weeks now) and even with squelch set to 1 it never breaks for noise and when a signal comes through it pops and fades,  trying to get support out of midland is treacherous ground. Even used a 6db gain antenna on roof of vehicle. They worked great for the first month, we loved them.

Sometimes repeater operators change the tone for various reasons and don't get around to documenting online. BTECH has successfully taken a successful HAM radio and locked it to GMRS to get the part 95. Sounds like they (thankfully) turned this off by default.

All you need to do is activate them. Customer service has great lip service but made in china integrity. I purchase 2 of these for the range and the weather channel function...after installing one in the house with a power supply and using it as a base station and one in my Polaris Ranger...I am very satisfied with the range and clarity. I believe it was built for Wal-Mart. A more rigid...and higher gain antenna can help; but it may or May not entirely eliminate the issue. I also have heard about the 115 and the receive issues. Lets face it, if you’re using this radio for your outdoor activities the likely hood of obstructions is pretty high so you can probably expect to land in that 5-10 mile range.

I wish you could get the mic replaced without purchasing the whole unit.

With the stock antenna, I can get about a mile and a half to two miles in heavily developed suburban areas, and a little less than a mile in the city (this was transmitting to a smaller midland handheld unit).

I have a BTECH GMRS-V1 and Chirp works fine both on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.10.

If all you purchase these for are for your kids use and communications are NOT important, then cheap made is OK... thinks Midland needs to stay with 27 MHz cb’s that they seem to have figured out over the last 30 years as opposed to still a work in progress for UHF. There are many repeaters out there that have separate codes for transmit and receive, and you will not be able to use this radio on those repeaters.

Out of curiosity hooked a power meter up to my good MXT115 just to verify it was giving me the full 15 watts, but is only registering 10 watts, I was really expecting to see the 15 as advertised. The Midland MXT115 MicroMobile Two-Way Radio is perfect for those types of situations.
