We were amazed at the scope and scale of the efforts our companies and foundations were making to support veterans locally and nationally. The leaders of Coca Colaâs VBRG invited UPS and a dozen other Fortune 500 companies to Cokeâs headquarters to discuss what each of our companies was doing to support veterans. This operating foundation works with children, families, communities, child welfare systems and policymakers to ensure that all children can be raised in a safe and permanent family. During World War II, we shipped care packages to our employees deployed overseas, and from the 1960s and beyond, we actively and proudly recruited Vietnam veterans. The foundation works to change and inform the advancement of social and economic policies and practices that promote the development of strong families and strong communities; encourage the development of a coherent knowledge base for advocates, families and the organizations that serve them; and invest in system change and cross-system change to generate greater knowledge and provide effective working models for practice. This is a mixed blessing as it can be very difficult for a service member, veteran or a family member to find the right organization to provide the right assistance at the right time.
